Judging Panel

The judging panel is made up of internationally recognised and respected judges from a variety of industry sectors and disciplines.

The panel is carefully selected to ensure the selection process is fair and objective. The judges are bound by a strict confidentiality agreement and are required to declare any conflict of interest in entries over which they deliberate and to stand aside from deliberations concerning those entries.

Mr. Eid has Over 25 years of experience in Hospital Operations, Hospital Planning, Hospital Design, Hospital Chain Management and Medical Equipment Technology Planning and Procurement. He has a Master of Public Health in Health Administration from Emory University, Atlanta Georgia, USA.

Mr. Eid began his career in 1984 as a Hospital Administrator at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1989, he was appointed as Administrative Divisional Coordinator for the department of nursing at George Washington University Medical Center (511 beds) in Washington, DC and in the following year Mr. Eid was promoted to the position of Director of Materials Management. In 1992, he moved to Georgetown University Medical Center (540 beds) in Washington DC where he served as Assistant Director of Materials Management and Operations of the Operating Theaters. From 1994 to 2003, Mr. Eid served as President of International Healthcare Development and KRA & Associates in Fairfax, Virginia, USA. In 2006, Mr. Eid joined HDP (Overseas) Ltd. in Abu Dhabi as Manager of Health Services and Business Development.

In 2009, Mr. Eid assumed the responsibility of Managing Director of Ventures Healthcare in Abu Dhabi and was instrumental in securing sizable projects for key clients in the region. Mr. Eid has earned an excellent reputation in the Gulf region for savings clients millions of dollars in procurement, for being a promoter of the best interest of the clients and for being an expert in the medical equipment market.

Ted Jacob is the President of Ted Jacob Engineering Group with offices in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Abu Dhabi and Beirut. The firm specializes in the design of healthcare and laboratory facilities. Mr. Jacob has over thirty years of extensive experience in the planning, design and management of large and complex hospital projects globally. He is an authority regarding Green Sustainable Design for Healthcare Facilities in which he obtained prestigious ASHRAE Awards for achievement in occupant comfort, indoor air quality and energy conservation for healthcare design projects.
   
  Karen (Kathy) Reno RN PhD, MBA

Dr. Reno has more than 40 years of experience in health care, most of which were spent in administrative roles as chief nursing officer for organizations and chief operating officer for clinical services. She now serves as lead consultant for Joint Commission Resources and Joint Commission International for the Safe Health Design Solution Service. Dr. Reno provides USA and international consulting for designing facilities for patient safety.

She also holds a half-time appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago's (UIC) College of Nursing. In addition, she is the College's Coordinator for the Doctor in Nursing Practice Executive Leadership Concentration, which she developed.

Dr. Reno lectures on numerous topics including safe facility design, board relations, hospital finances, safety and technology.
   
  Malek El Husseini, PE, MEng

Malek is the Business Development Director for the Middle East. He is responsible for healthcare investments and turnkey projects in the Middle East region. He joined GE Healthcare in 2006 and is in charge for the strategic positioning of GE Healthcare into the new projects.

Malek has a Master in Clinical Engineering from Ecole Polytechnique de Montréal. He has 18 years of experience in consulting work. His area of expertise needs assessment, equipment evaluation, healthcare technology trends and project management. He was the Middle East Director of ECRI Institute for 8 years in Dubai (UAE) where he developed and executed business plans, identified market opportunities, provide healthcare consultancy expertise covering technology planning, procurement and management, he led trade shows conferences and trainings at national and international levels.

He was Chief Biomedical Engineer for 5 years in Tawam Hospital (UAE) where he supervised new projects, monitored and negotiated service contracts and consulted for Ministry of Health. He has also been a Biomedical Engineer for 2 years in Montreal Heart Institute (Canada) where he worked on medical equipment evaluation, monitor radiation safety programs and quality control for diagnostic imaging
