Rehabilitation hospital ‘to be ready in three years’
The Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation hospital at Hamad Medical City is expected to be ready within the next three years, a senior official has disclosed. The 230-bed hospital in a 12-storey structure is part of a slew of facilities, including three specialty hospitals, planned at the Medical City.
The first four levels of the hospital building will be designated for outpatient clinics, operation theatres, pharmacies, support services, management offices, a cafeteria and a prayer area while the upper floors will be designated for inpatients.
“In the next three years, we plan to have the new rehabilitation hospital ready, which will have the capacity of more than 200 beds,” Hamad Medical Corporation’s Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department acting chairperson Dr Wafa al-Yazeedi said.
She said the department was working very hard to ensure that the hospital building’s construction and installation of facilities were ready by that time. "We will ensure that our patients always receive quality services,” she promised.
The official called for more specialised centres across the country, adding that a national rehabilitation project would begin soon. Dr al-Yazeedi said the department was also looking at initiating some programmes within and beyond the HMC.
“To cope with the increase in number of patients due to the population increase, we are introducing a number of programmes outside of the hospital to help the patients’ re-integration back into the
community.”
“We also plan some community-based services in partnership with stakeholders within the sector and most important issue in focus here is continuous care, starting from prevention within the community to acute care and sub-acute as well as patients’ reintegration back into the community. This is very important for patients,” she said.
